Don’t Miss: Guide: Google’s face unlocking tech is arriving soon

According to rumours, Google is working tirelessly to unveil face unlocking tech for both the Pixel 11 family and upcoming Chromebooks. This development, known as Project Toscana, will work without any additional visible sensors on the Pixel phones.

If it uses infrared like iPhones, it means that the IR bits are hidden under the display. Reports state that even Apple is doing the same thing for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Everything is the same on Pixel 10. The face unlocking feature works well in both low ambient lighting and in daylight.

It was last year that the rumour of Google bringing IR-based face unlocking to the Pixel 11 family started. It’s here now. The company is also developing the same tech for Chromebooks, or at least testing it on some.

The report further states that Google’s new tech works as fast as Apple’s Face ID on iPhones. Pixels also have a fingerprint scanner, unlike iPhones.
